There is confusion in the Presidency
over the whereabouts of the registration certificate of the Peoples Democratic
Party.
The Eagle Online reports that the
Presidency, in a battle to secure its hold on the PDP, has sought, without
success, for the certificate of registration of the party.
The presidency has however narrowed
the search for the certificate to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo,
former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule
Lamido.
But it is very unlikely that the
certificate will be with Obasanjo as he was still in Yola Prison in Adamawa
State when the party was registered.
Thus, Abubakar and Lamido who are
both part of the breakaway faction under the chairmanship of Alhaji Abubakar
Kawu Baraje are possible custodians of the certificate.
The trio, as well as some governors
and chieftains of the party had stormed out of Saturday’s Special National
Convention, over the disqualification of candidates perceived as enemies of
Bamanga Tukur’s leadership.
Presently, loyalists of Mr. Jonathan
believes the certificate is with Abubakar, because he paid for the registration
of the party and the acquisition of its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza
located at Zone 5 in Abuja.
Reacting, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak,
Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs, informed DailyPost that the story is
completely false.
The aide described it as a false
alarm and fabricated imagination of mischief makers.
“I can confirm to you that the
registration certificate of the PDP is with National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga
Tukur,” he said in a text message Wednesday morning. (ONLINE REPORT)
