KOGI STATE GOVT. RESTATES COMMITMENT TO POLIO ERADICATION

The Kogi State Government says it will continue to reinforce its commitment to the eradication of polio and other child killer diseases.
The Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada stated this at the 3rd quarter 2013 meeting with Chairmen of Local Government Area Councils, Traditional and Religious leaders as well as stakeholders on Polio Eradication, Routine Immunization and Primary Health Care.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the State has since 2009, remained polio free, disclosed that the present administration is concerned about permanently eradicating all child killer diseases in the State.

Capt. Wada explained that protection of children against vulnerable diseases has remained paramount since the inception of his administration, commended people of the State for responding to all polio and other diseases initiatives.
The State Governor called for the sustenance of all infrastructures provided for polio initiatives, adding that using the funds accrued the State, more infrastructures will be provided using the Bill and Melinda Gate Award Funds.
Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Parents and Council Chairmen were equally called upon by the Governor to ensure the success of the fourth quarter of the 2013 immunization plus days, called on parents to makes their children between the ages of 0- 5 years available in the forth coming October immunization day.
Capt. Wada thanked all the relevant agencies and non รข€“ governmental organization for their contribution to the eradication of child killer diseases in the State.
The Governor assured that the State will sustain the payment of all its counterpart funds, adding that together, working collectively, the State and Nigeria will remain polio and other killer diseases free.
Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Health Dr. Idris Omede, disclosed that Kogi State ranks high in the first and second quarter of 2013 immunization, has released her counterpart funds to the Bill and Melinda Gate Fund Grant.
Dr. Omede who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, of the Ministry, S. O. Aliyu, commended the State Government in its commitment to routine immunization and all health intervention, called on all stakeholders to support the 5th- 9th October, 2013 National Health Primary Health Care immunization campaign.
In her presentation, Dr. Balogun disclosed that Kogi State still remains polio free as at June, 2013 and is among the EU-sign States to enjoy support for immunization.
She charged Traditional and Religious leaders to assist in mobilization, monitor intervention, offer suggestion and complement enumeration in their domain.
Similarly, she charged the Council Chairmen to continuously demonstrate ownership of the polio immunization programme and assist in supervising promptly routine programmes as well as pay their counterpart funding to help sustain the eradication on the immunization fight.
The meeting witnessed interactive session where participants suggested solutions to the challenges to achieving successful immunization in the State
