VANDALS CAUSE OIL PIPELINE FIRE IN LAGOS STATE

An explosion has occurred at the site of a vandalised NNPC oil pipeline at Ijedodo, near Ijegun in Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria.
Some oil thieves were reported to have been burnt to death, while scooping fuel at the vandalised pipeline, near Festac Town.
According to a witness, the raging fire started about 8 hours ago, when about 30 oil thieves stormed the scene in two canoes and started scooping fuel into hundreds ofjerry cans.  Meanwhile, NNPC officials have reportedly shut-down supplies to the pipeline, as officials of the National Emergency Management Agency found it difficult to access the scene of the incident due to the swampy nature of the terrain.
There is no official count on the number of casualties as at the time of this report.
