The military in Maiduguri, Borno
State on Friday, said it has foiled a terror attack planned for the
Christmas holiday season by the islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The
Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State, Operation Restore Order in a
statement signed by spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, said the military in
an operation killed two Boko Haram bomb experts and some sub
commanders. He said key bomb making materials for the planned “Black
Christmas” terrorist attacks were seized during the operation.
"Following the
killing of Abdulkareem Ibrahim– a high profile Boko Haram commander, in
a joint operations with Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Restore
Order troops along Damboa- Biu road on 2 December, 2012 and
based on additional information made available to the
JTF, sustained follow up operations were successfully conducted by
the Task Force at Sabon Gere, Sabon Layin, Gwange, Dala Sajeri,
Biafra and Suleimanti are as of Maiduguri metropolis between 3 – 5
December, 2012.
"And
consequently, four identified Boko Haram Terrorists sub
commanders including two experts in the manufacturing of Improvised
Explosive Devices were killed in a shoot out with our troops,
two soldiers were wounded," the spokesman said.
The
military said it recovered 5 AK47 Rifles, a Pistol, 11 AK
47 Rifles empty magazines, a G3 Rifle, 176 assorted ammunition, and 24
quantities of assorted primed IEDs Gas Cylinders. Also recovered
include 12 pieces of IEDs remote control switches, 6 assorted IEDs and
incendiary materials/chemicals, and 15 small primed IED cans.
Recall
that last year, churches in northern Nigeria, especially in Damaturu,
Yobe State and Maiduguri witnessed deadly attacks during the Christmas
