RESIDENT DOCTORS CALL OFF STRIKE IN LAGOS

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, have suspended their ten-day inndefinite strike over excessive tax deduction. .
The healthcare workers resumed work at about1pm today, (Friday, December 14), at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

The Chairman, LUTH-ARD, Dr. Adetunji Adenekan told Health Correspondents that the strike was suspended in the interest of patients and because of the intervention of their parent bodies, , the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Dr. Adenekan said leadership of doctors across the federation resolved that call duty and hazard allowances should not be taxed as “call duty allowances are not supernnuable since they are monies actually worked for.
“We will continue negotiations, legally or otherwise, until we get to breaking point, negotiations will continue. We frown strongly at the process of commencement and implementation of the new tax law in LUTH despite the hospital’s management knowledge of its lack of uniform application throughout the country.” He said.
