Director
General of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, Yomi Bolarinwa, has assured
that the country will successfully meet the June 2015 deadline set by the
International Telecommunications from Analogue to Digital Transmission. The
D.G., who gave the assurance at the 2012 Digital Dialogue, said the appropriate
agencies and ministries to have been made to facilitate the smooth transition.
This could be by regulating or subsidising sales and acquisition of Set Top
boxes which is the key component the consumer will require to successfully make
the switch.
In
July, 2012 the Director of Communications, Olaiya Bolarinwa, said that four out
of the country's six commercial cities now have digital TV transmission but
that set top boxes to convert the signals remains difficult.
Analysts say an estimated 1.7 trillion
naira will be spent in the next 3 years to facilitate the switch.
