INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ORDERS TIGHT SECURITY IN NIGERIA



The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed all Assistant Inspectors General of Police and State Command Commissioners adopt all relevant measures to ensure security of lives and property across Nigeria before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

A statement made available to journalists in Abuja today (Sunday), by the Force Deputy Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, quoted the IGP as further directing the Commissioners of Police to ensure that shopping malls, public places, finance houses and worship centres are adequately secured. 
The IGP also directed Commanders of Police Highway Patrol Teams to ensure motorized patrols on highways to forestall accidents and crime. Similarly, policemen deployed to highways were directed to render all necessary assistance to all road users especially accident victims, and travellers who may suffer vehicular breakdown.

He warned officers who will be deployed during the yuletide to comporty themselves and act within the law. 
"They mst be firm but poilte, civil and profesional in the discharge of their assigned roles, giving due regard and rspect to the fundamental human rights of citizens at all times" the IGP said.

The Nigerian Police boss used the medium to thank Nigerians for their coperation, patience and understanding through out 2012, especially in the face of daunting national security challenges.He sued for peace from all Nigerians irrespective of religiuos, political or socio-cultural leanings, expressing optimisim that the the country`s multifarious challenges, including that of security, are surmountable with all hands on deck.
