ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BUREAU TO LAUNCH OWN FLIGHT DATA/COCKPIT RECORDER

The Accident Investigation Bureau says it is very close to launching its
own Flight Data Recorder/Cockpit Voice Recorder laboratory system, to be
located at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. 
 
Commissioner of AIB, Mukhtar Usman, who made this known while speaking to
newsmen in Lagos on Friday, explained that the FDR/CVR laboratory will enable the
bureau to download both flight recorders promptly during accident
investigation.
He added that the system will also have a capacity of being used for
real-time flight data monitoring.
Captain Usman, who said safety recommendations are vital tools for
preventing accidents, informed that AIB has so far made more than 32
safety recommendations issues with 20 accepted, implemented and closed
while 12 still open.
