One
person was confirmed dead today (Wednesday), following a fire out break at the popular Jankara
Market, Idumota, Lagos.
The
inferno which caused pandemonium among residents of the state, began at about
9am and affected ten buildings and vehicles.
Witnesses said it was caused by firecrackers, popularly called “knockouts” or “bangers”, which were packed in a shop in Folawiyo House, located at Number 45, Ojogiwa Street, Idumota.

Isiaka, said one of the sellers lit a firecracker, which accidentally flew into
a shop and detonated the packs inside, causing several explosions.
Managing Director
of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osayentolu
told our correspondent Bimbo Awoyele that his men are fully on ground.
Meanwhile,
emergency teams have pulled down some of the badly damaged buildings to prevent
the fire from spreading, while the Lagos State Police Bomb Squad took samples
of the explosives for examination.
