NIGERIANS MOURN THE DEATH OF KADUNA GOV., AZAZI & 4 OTHERS


Hundreds of mourners have continued to throng Mr Yakowa`s home to commiserate with his widow, Mrs. Amina Yakowa.

Governor Yakowa, former National Security Adviser, Andrew Azazi and their two Aides and pilots of the Naval Helicopter died yesterday in Bayelsa State while returning from the funeral of the father of President Jonathan’s aide, Oronto Douglas. President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered an investigation into the crash even as he expressed shock at the incident. Six people were reported to be in the Naval Augusta 109, before it exploded mid air. The helicopter is one of the airlines used for Ariel surveillance in the Niger Delta.
A statement by the Nigerian Navy confirming the incident and signed by the Director of Information; Commodore Kabiru Aliyu, says that the crash of the Augusta Helicopter, NN 07 occurred at about 3.30 pm on Saturday.
Local residents said the helicopter appeared to have developed a mechanical problem adding that the pilot may have decided to plunge it into the creek, but it burst into flames on impact.
Meanwhile, the Northern Governors Forum, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta and the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaech have sent their heartfelt condolences to the families of the six victims of the air crash as well as the people of Kaduna state.
First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has postponed the praise and thanksgiving event earlier scheduled for today (Sunday).
A statement issued in Abuja by the special assistant (media) to the first lady, Mr. Ayo Osinlu, said the postponement was as a result of yesterday`s helicopter crash in Bayelsa state
