NIGERIA: KANO STATE GOVERNMENT BANS COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLES TO CHECK RISING INSECURITY



Kano State Government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles popularly called Achaba in the state.
The action followed the persistent use of the motorbikes to carry out acts of terror on residents of the city, the recent being last Saturday`s attack on the Emir of Kano.

The State`s Deputy Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje said on Tuesday that the decision was taken after a meeting with the leaders of the various commercial motorcyclists association.
He said the ban which takes immediate effect, is within the Kano metropolis.
Mr Ganduje, who requested that the leaders pass the message of the ban to their members, requested owners of private motorcycles in the state to go and register their bikes at their respective Local Government Areas.
