FIRST NIGERIAN PRIVATE POWER PLANT (GEOMETRIC) BEGINS OPERATION IN MARCH 2013



The first private power plant in Nigeria, Geometric is to commence operation in March this year.  Managing Director of the company Mrs. Agatha Nnaji announced this when the National Good Governance Tour Team inspected the plant in Aba, Abia State.
She said the integrated power project comprises of 140 megawatts power plant, overhead line, a 27 kilometre gas pipeline and a sub-station, which had been completed.
Mrs. Nnaji disclosed that the three turbines at the power plant had been installed and that the company had entered into an agreement with Shell Petroleum Company for the supply of gas to the plant. 

She added that the company had completed four substations at different locations in Abia State and refurbished three substations from PHCN, with the intent of absorbing and training some former staff of PHCH to drive the plant.
In his remark, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, lauded the management of the company for their foresight and courage in venturing into the power business.
