UNKNOWN GUNMEN ATTACK M.D. OF NIGERIAN COMPASS NEWSPAPER 
   

Yet to be identified gunmen on Tuesday shot the Managing Director of Nigerian Compass, Mr. Sina Kawonise and his police orderly.
Kawonise , a former Commissioner of Information in the administration of former governor Gbenga Daniel was reportedly attacked by gunmen around Ikeji Arakeji area of Osun State, while returning from Akwa, Anambra State, where he had delivered a keynote address at the 17th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association which held at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka.
He was said to have traveled by road due to the absence of available flight to airports close to Osun state.
According to a statement by media aide to former Governor Daniel, Adegbenro Adebanjo, the gunmen opened fire in order to force his vehicle to stop.
“The attackers were, however, repelled by his two police orderlies. In the ensuing gun battle Mr. Kawonise was shot in the leg by the attackers while one of his two police ordelies also suffered gunshot wounds.”
Mr. Kawonise and the wounded policeman are in stable condition at an undisclose hospital.
