REPS TO ACCEPT BILL RECOMMENDING REFERENDUM IN CONST. REVIEW

Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal says the House will accept a bill proposing the inclusion of referendum in the 1999 Constitution in the on-going constitution amendment process.
Honourable Tambuwal stated this on Thursday, while flagging off the Peoples Public Sessions of the House. He explained that a referendum can only become legitimate when such a clause is included in the constitution.  Tambuwal expressed optimism that the Public sessions which will take place in 360 constituencies across the federation, will ensure a more participatory, inclusive and transparent review of the 1999 Constitution. In his remark, Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha  who equally Chairs the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the review of the 1999 constitution, said the current review was necessitated by the myriads of complaints  that the constitution can not completely address all the concerns of Nigerians.
Tambuuwal spoke in reaction to a referendum by the Nigerian Bar Association.
