The Senate on Wednesday, mandated the National Drugs Law Enforcement
Agency, NDLEA to reinstate its sacked officer, Adamu Magaji back to duty as
well as pay the backlog of salaries and allowances owed to him by the Agency.
Magaji’s case got
unanimous support from Lawmakers during the consideration of the report
of Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in Abuja, today.
In his contribution, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri noted
that the NDLEA has been consumed in the highest level of conspiracy and urged
the red chamber to wade into its
leadership structure.
Supporting his colleagues, Senator Babafemi Ojudu
condemned the murder of the informant, Joseph Tally, who gave information about
said Okorie, pointing out that guaranteeing the safety of an informant’s life
is the only reason why Nigerians decline to volunteer information to security agencies.
Ruling on the matter, the President of the Senate, David Mark said the legislature will continue to support whistle blowers aslong as their claim is genuine but warned senior officers to desist from
victimizing them.
Mr Adamu Mogaji was sacked by the NDLEA, for allegedly fraternizing with a drug baron, Obi Okorie, who was arrested with 30 grams of
cocaine, 30 grams of heroin and 19 grams of cannabis.
