DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT TO FUMIGATE HOMES OF SOME FLOOD VICTIMS

DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT TO FUMIGATE HOMES OF SOME FLOOD VICTIMS

Delta State Government is to prepare and fumigate the homes of flood victims before they would be allowed to go back to their various communities.
The State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan who disclosed this yesterday while addressing flood victims in Asaba, said it was dangerous for them to go back to their different places of abode when such places have not been fumigated and cleaned up.
He cautioned that reptiles and other dangerous animals could still be lurking around and therefore urged them not to hurry back to their homes until it was safe to avoid unpleasant consequences.

The Governor hinted that the State Government has a package for their resettlement, stressing that once the committee set up to arrange for their resettlement submits its report, the State Government would provide the necessary materials that would enable them resettle comfortably.

His words ‘’I wish to remind you of a committee headed by Justice Tabai which was inaugurated recently and to say that the committee is working hard to prepare and resettle you comfortably. But until that committee submits its report there is nothing much the government can do to resettle you. It is therefore better for you to wait until the report of the committee is out before you go’’.
Dr Uduaghan however advised those who were in a hurry to go, to feel free to do so assuring that whatever was due to them would eventually be distributed to them even after they had left.
The Governor expressed appreciation to God for sustaining them till this moment and enjoined them to continue to be prayerful especially as God made it possible for them to survive the flood.
A spokesman for the flood victims expressed appreciation to the state government for rising to the occasion when they were trapped.
He recalled how the Uduaghan administration hired Lorries and boats to evacuate them from where they were trapped by the flood.
The spokesman however said they have lost everything explaining that even when they go back to their various communities they would have no pots and utensils to cook with.
He therefore appealed to the governor to put machinery in motion and provide logistics that would enable them to resettle without tears.
