PETER OBI REPLACES LATE OJUKWU AS NATIONAL LEADER, APGA

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has appointed the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its National Leader and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) to replace the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
The NWC made the appointment during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party which held today (Saturday) in Awka, the state capital.
APGA National Chairman, Victor Umeh, had in early December 2013 read a communique after the NWC meeting, stating that the choice of Obi was due to his contributions towards keeping the party alive in the past 11 years and for particularly ensuring that an APGA member succeeds him on March 17, 2014 when his tenure ends.
According to the APGA National Chairman, “the National Working Committee noted the great contributions made by His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi (CON) towards keeping the party alive in the past 11 years of his membership of our great party and particularly for ensuring that an APGA governor will succeed him on 17th March 2014, a promise made and faithfully kept.
“Obi’s recommendation to step into Ojukwu’s shoes as the National Leader and Chairman of the BOT is based on his performance, financial discipline, and commitment to APGA in the past 11 years. He never contemplated leaving the party, his sterling performance led to the superlative performance we recorded in the Anambra governorship election, which also led to the landmark victory APGA recorded in the Anambra elections”, he added.
Umeh stressed that “You will recall that Okorocha strayed into our ranks, we supported him; despite the fact that he has never won an election in his life, we supported him and less than two years he defected to another party”.
Also appointed were 25 members of the Board of Trustees with Peter Obi as the chairman.
A vote of confidence was also passed on the leadership of the party led by the embattled factional chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, who presided over the meeting.
Other items in the list of agenda include setting up of committee for the Review of the Party Constitution, Mandating the National Working Committee to fill all existing vacancies in the National Working Committee and fixing a date for the National Convention.  (CHANNELS TV)
