The federal government has mandated private power
companies to ensure steady electricity supply in Nigeria by June 2014.
Minister of Power, Professor
Chinedu Nebo, issued the deadline, while inaugurating the new board of the
Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Professor Nebo, explained that the six
months ultimatum indicates government’s determination to address the power
issue.
He warned that the Presidency will
not entertain any excuses on the part of the companies.
Professor Nebo added that the Federal
Government was reviewing the power contract with Manitoba Hydro International,
due to some shortcomings and concerns raised by the National Assembly.
You will recall that seventeen successive
companies were created out of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, as part of
reforms in the power sector.
