Chairman of
the House of Representatives’ Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Zakari
Mohammed, said on Sunday, that the country’s new Constitution would be ready by
July, this year.
Mohammed
told journalists in Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara that the much
anticipated document would have been ready, but for wide consultation.
He said
the task of amending a constitution is a tedious job and not a job which people
would sit down and conclude easily.
“But we
are looking at the month of June or July as when we are going to have a clean
copy of the new constitution for Nigeria. For what
we did in the House of Representatives, we went to the 360 Federal
Constituencies and, as much as possible, we were able to gather the views of
the people.
What we
have reported is exactly what we pushed forward for them, and what we are
saying is that at the end of the day, we are going to have a constitution that
is workable for the Nigerian people,’’ Mohammed said.(NAN)
