THE REMAINS OF LATE VICE ADMIRAL MIKE AKHIGBE ARRIVES NIGERIA TODAY



The Nigerian Navy has confirmed that the remains of the former Chief of the General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, will arrive Nigeria today.

Vice Admiral Akhigbe died of throat cancer in an American hospital, last week.
His remains will arrive in a chartered flight from the US, and touch down at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos. It will be flown to Edo State where his remains will lie in state before a ceremonial national burial.
Late Mike Akhigbe severed as Chief of General Staff (the number two man) in the military administration of retired General Abdusalami Abubakar. Their administration successfully handed over to civilian administration, resulting in the current democratic dispensation.
Late Vice Admiral Akhigbe, served as Chief of the Naval Staff and a former military governor of Lagos and Ondo states.
He is a native of Fugar in Etsako Central local government area of present day Edo State.
