Nigerians have been asked not to panic as the country experiences solar
eclipse today.
Today’s eclipse, which is expected
to begin at about 1.30pm, is the sixth since 1898.
Partial eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the
earth and the moon partially blocks the sun as can be seen by humans on earth.
Announcing this to journalists in Abuja, Director General, National
Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Seidu Mohammed, said various parts
of the country will witness a partial or total solar eclipse later today. Dr.
Mohammed, urged Nigerians to view the spectacular phenomenon with special
glasses and not with the naked eyes.
The eclipse will be seen across Nigeria and in the West African
sub-region. The Director, Basic Centre for Space Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Fidelis Opara explains further. He said that telecommunication services,
satellite signals and flights will not be affected
The last partial eclipse occurred in Nigeria in
