The House of
Representatives have resolved to investigate the non-implementation of the
United Nations Environmental Project (UNEP) report on Ogoniland.
At its
sitting today, the House mandated its committees on Environment and
Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to conduct the investigation.
Drawing
attention to the disaster, Honourable Kingsley Chinda, regretted that the
federal government was yet to act on the report two years after it was
presented to President Jonathan.
The joint committee is expected to summon the
managers of the Hydro-carbon Pollution Restoration Project, established by the Nigerian
Government in the wake of the UNEP report and submit its report in four weeks
time.
