NIGERIAN JOURNALISTS BACK EMERGENCY RULE, BEGINS PICKETTING OF SOME MEDIA HOUSES IN ABUJA & LAGOS OVER UNPAID WAGES



The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), has backed the imposition of emergency rule in three states of northern Nigeria.
At a joint briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, National President of NUJ, Mohammed Garba said the union supports any action that will help restore lasting peace in the region. He however urged the military to endevour to abide by the rules of engagement.

The NUJ National President who was joined by his counterpart in RATTAWU, Comrade Oluyemisi Bamgbose, said the unions have concluded plans to commence the picketing of media houses that have yet to settle the backlog of salaries of media workers.
The NUJ National President added that the Union is about to publish a Code of Conduct for media practitioners in Nigeria, to check issues of professional misconduct.
