MEDICAL DOCTORS DOWN TOOLS IN EBONYI STATE OVER INSECURITY



Medical doctors in Ebonyi state yesterday, began a strike action to protest the kidnap of their colleague, a consultant paediatrician, Pius Maiyike.
Ebonyi state NMA Chairman, Chidi Esike, told a press conference in Abakaliki that the strike involves all government and
private hospitals in the state. Dr Maiyike, a staff of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, was kidnapped on Sunday in Abakaliki.
The state NMA chairman said doctors could not continue to operate under an unsafe environment, resume work immediately their colleague is set free.
While stating that doctors do humanitarian work and not wealthy, Mr Esike said there will be no skeletal services during the strike period.
The Ebonyi State Police command has confirmed the incident.
