KIDNAPPERS FREE ELDER STATESMAN IN BORNO STATE



kidnapped former Petroleum Minister, Ali Monguno, has regained his freedom.
Borno State Police Commissioner, Abdullahi Yuguda said Alhaji Shettima Ali Munguno was set free yesterday after three days in captivity, but declined to speak on how he was released. Mongunu was abducted by yet to be identified gunmen on Friday, at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State. The elder statesman’s son, Abubakar Ali Monguno, said the kidnappers immediately contacted the family demanding for a ransom.
Meanwhile, unofficial sources said about four hundred thousand Euros, about fifty million naira was paid for his release.
The eighty-nine year old Monguno, was oil minister in the 1970s and equally held the rotating presidency of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 1972.
