FOUR STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSES IN LOKOJA, KOGI STATE, NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA



Kogi State Government has warned Property developers to always adhere to professional standards after securing the mandatory approval.
The warning followed the collapse of a four-storey Five-Star Hotel building, which is still undergoing construction in near T-Square, Zone 8 Area of Lokoja.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, Stated this while inspecting the rubble of the building, which collapsed at about 2pm yesterday.

The Deputy Governor expressed gratitude that aside the four persons injured and hospitalised, no life was lost in the tragedy.
He said the incident is the first to be recorded in Lokoja, since the creation of Kogi state.
Awoniyi maintained that the present administration has always insisted on doing the right thing when it comes to building work, adding that the tragedy once again reinforced the need for developers to adhere strictly to proper building regulation and supervised by professionals.
The Kogi State Deputy Governor ordered immediate stoppage of work on the site, pending the outcome of government’s investigation.
Representative of the owner of the project, Gbamis Olukayode, said the project is owned by a group of firms, and that approvals were given for the project, but could not place the cause of the tragedy.
As at the time of this report, representatives of the building owners and the Kogi State government are in a closed door meeting in Lokoja.
