IRANIAN BAGS 5 YEAR JAIL TERM IN NIGERIA FOR ILLEGAL ARMS IMPORTATION

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday, handed a five year jail term on a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Azim Aghajani.
Justice Okechukwu Okeke found Aghajani guilty of smuggling weapons into Lagos in 2010.
A Nigerian, Ali Jega was also convicted alongside Azim Aghajani.
The Nigerian Customs Service in 2010 discovered thirteen containers at the Apapa Port, laden with rockets and grenades, shipped in from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The shipment was disguised as building materials. Court documents revealed that the arms were to be re-exported to The Gambia.
