The
Nigerian Government today, published a list of 492 delegates to the much talked
about National Conference, scheduled to commence on March 17 in Abuja.
The list includes three Assistant Secretaries for the National Conference
Secretariat.
A
statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, named the three
assistant secretaries as: Dr. Akilu Ndabawa, Assistant Secretary, Conference
Proceedings, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Assistant Secretary, Finance and Administration
and Mr. James Akpandem, Assistant Secretary, Media and Communications.
According to the SGF the National Conference will be inaugurated on
Monday 17th March, 2014 at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja at 11:00 am.
All delegates are requested to attend the opening session.
The delegates
list is made up of 37 elder statesmen, retired army, navy and air force as well
as retired Police, SSS and National Intelligence Agency all with six delegates
each.
Traditional
rules have 13 delegates, Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and
retired Civil Servants 12 delegates; Organised Private Sector, consisting of
Nigeria employers consultative association, Manufacturers Association of
Nigeria, the Nigerian Chambers of Commerce, Industries Mines and Agriculture,
as well as the Nigerian Economic Summit Group with eight delegates.
Others are: Youth Council of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian
Students, among others, have 18 delegates; Religious groups 12 delegates; Women
associations 24 delegates; while political parties have ten slots…each of the
five listed political parties were given two delegates each. Only the All
Progressives Congress did not nominate representatives, just as Delta and Edo
States did not nominate female delegates.
