SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE FOIL JAIL BREAK BY HENRY OKAH & FOUR OTHERS

South African Police today, confirmed that former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Henry Okah, has been rearrested in a failed jail break.

Spokesmen for South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services, Manelisi Wolela, told correspondents that Mr Okah was among five inmates that attempted to escape from the Leeukop prison in northern Johannesburg. He did not give further details but said security has been tightened at the prison.
Okah was convicted last year and given a 24 years jail term, on 13 counts of terrorism, including twin bombings that killed 12 people in Abuja in 2010, during Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
South African prison officials said all the prisoners involved in the botched jail beak are serving life sentences for serious offences including murder, kidnapping and robbery.
