As part
of efforts to contain insurgency in parts of Nigeria, the Nigerian Air Force
has unveiled its first Unmanned Ariel Vehicle.
The
locally manufactured drone, called GULMA….an
Hausa word for gossip, was officially unveiled by President Goodluck Jonathan
at Nigeria Air Force base in Kaduna earlier today.
The
unmanned aerial vessel was designed and constructed by the Nigeria Air Force in
partnership with other local institutions.
Unveiling
the UAV, President Jonathan said it was a landmark moment in Nigeria’s history.
He also
supervised the winging of eleven locally trained UAV pilots at the occasion.
Meanwhile, the nation’s Service Chiefs will brief
the Senate tomorrow on the current security situation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe
States.
