The House of Representatives
has recommended the sack of Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, for violating the 2013
Appropriation Act.
This
recommendation was contained in the report of the House Committee on Aviation,
which investigated the purchase of armoured BMW Cars for the minister.
Presenting
the report yesterday, Chairman, House
of
Representative Committee on Aviation, Nkeiruka
Onyejeocha said the
Aviation Minister equally contravened the Appropriation Act by exceeding the
ministry’s approval limit of 100 million naira by purchasing 54 vehicles at 643
million naira.

The
House, therefore directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA) to cancel
all contracts and loan agreements on the matter.
The EFCC was also requested to investigate the
discrepancies in the chassis number DW68032 of one of the vehicles inspected by
the committee.
In the meantime, the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella
Oduah has voiced displeasure at the conclusions.
The
Minister’s statement was contained in a statement by her Special Adviser on
Media, Joe Obi. The Aviation Minister said in spite of the deluge of
representations and evidences provided by invited stakeholders and herself, the
House recommendations only confirmed that there is a hidden agenda in the
entire exercise.
The
Minister equally faulted the Committee’s position that the vehicles were not
included in the 2013 budget despite glaring evidence that it exists in the
Appropriation Act.
She said the
report was pre-meditated and aimed at casting aspersions on the person and office
of the minister of aviation.
The Minister restated her initial claim that her
action conformed to laid down rules.
