Igbos pray for late Ikemba Nnewi


Igbos and Nigerians have today been praying for the repose of the soul of former Biafran Warlord, Ikemba Nnewi, (eze Igbo gburugburu), Dim Chukukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu.
This followed a request by the Anambra state governor, Mr Peter Obi.
The Governor appealed to Nigerians to set aside 4 November annually, for prayers of the peaceful repose of the late Igbo icon, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ikemba Nnewi.
In a press statement endorsed by the secretary to the Ananbra state government, Oseloka Obaze, Mr Obi explained that the request was against the backdrop of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu’s birthday.
He said apart from offering special prayers for the soul of the late eze Igbo gburugburu, his administration will mark his posthumous birthday by visiting the camps of all the displaced persons by the recent flood disaster in the state.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu  was born on 4 November 1933 at Zungeru in northern Nigeria (present day Niger State) to Sir Louis Phillippe Odumegwu Ojukwu, a businessman from Nnewi, Anambra State. He passed on in the early hours of November 26, 2011, in London after a long illness at Royal Berkshire Hospital  in the United Kingdom. He was married to Bianca.

Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, KBE, (was born in 1909 and died in 1966). He was an extremely successful Igbo businessman from Ojukwus family of Nwakanwa quarters obiuno umudim Nnewi.
His successes in the business world earned him the respect of the British Monarch with the prestigous honour of Knight of the British Empire, KBE.
 Sir Ojukwu was the first and founding President of The Nigerian Stock Exchange as well as President of The African Continental Bank among other appointments.
