The Nigerian Senate today, approved the extension of partial state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
Moving
the motion for the extension, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba attached eight conditions.
The
senate resolved that the Ministers of Police Affairs and Defence, as well as
Service Chiefs, National Security Adviser and Director General of State Security
Services brief them on a monthly basis, progress made in combating insurgency in the affected states.
Chairman
of the Senate Committee on Media, Information and Public Affairs, Eyinnaya
Abaribe said the Senate urged the federal government to partner with the state
governors to come up with an economic Marshall plan to cater for the critical
infrastructure in the three affected states.
The
Senate also urged the federal government to carry out special recruitment into
the armed forces of screened youths particularly the civilian JTF, who would be
redeployed in the troubled zones to strengthen the troops. The Senate however
commended the support of the international community in the current effort to
rescue of the abducted Chibok students.
