NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT SEEKS EXTENTION OF EMERGENCY RULE IN BORNO, YOBE AND ADAMAWA.

President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Senate to extend the State of Emergency currently in place in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, by a further six months to enable security agencies end the insurgency.

The request was contained in a letter read by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over plenary today in Abuja.
President Jonathan explained that though substantial progress has been made in the last one year, the security situation in the affected states has necessitated his decision to extend.
The current State of Emergency is due to elapse on Thursday May 15.
