KANO HISBA BOARD DESTROYS 200,000 BOTTLES OF BEER IN 2013



The Kano State Hisba Board announced yesterday that it destroyed more than two hundred thousand bottles of assorted beer worth millions of naira last year.
Director-General of the board, Dr. Abba Sufi, told journalists in Kano that the items were seized from dealers and other members of the public across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He added that the Board also secured the conviction of all those found guilty of the offence.
Dr Sufi said it is illegal under the 2001 Kano State Islamic Law, to drink, sale, consume, produce or transport alcohol in the state.
He equally said that the board received reports from members of the public on the re-emergence of prostitutes in some parts of the city, adding that 66 suspected prostitutes had been arrested in the last two weeks.
Dr Sufi said the state government had set up a hundred-man task force to enforce the ban on street begging in the state.
