STAKEHOLDERS CONVERGE ON BENIN CITY, EDO STATE OVER EROSION MENACE



A new initiative to address the unending problem of gully erosion in Edo State has been initiated by the Federal Government in partnership the World Bank and Edo State Government.
It is an initiative of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
Officials of the World Bank, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the Federal Ministry of Environment as well as international and national consultants are currently in Edo State on a two-week Joint Technical Mission to facilitate the implementation of NEWMAP in Edo and other pilot states.   
The team visited various erosion sites and interacted with residents of the affected areas.
Seven pilot states: Cross River, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Enugu and Imo will benefit from the Erosion and Watershed Management Project.
