LAGOS STATE RECORDS 427 CASES OF CHILD DEFILEMENT

Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye says 427 reported cases of child defilement were recorded by the Office of the Public Defender last year.

Addressing news today, Mr. Ipaye said the figure was alarming considering the fact that majority of rape and child defilements cases were often not reported by families of the victims.

The A-G said six of the offenders were successful prosecuted and jailed through the efforts of the OPD, adding that other cases were still in court.

Ipaye, however, asserted that the rate of crime generally had dropped by 60 per cent since the enforcement of the new traffic law.
He said the government would continue to provide assistance to law enforcement agencies towards ensuring that incidents of crime in the state were reduced to the barest minimum..
