The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition
Tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the petition brought before it by the governorship
candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Natasha Akpoti.
She is contesting the victory of Governor
Yahaya Bello, of the All Progressives Congress, in the November 16, 2019 governorship
election in Kogi state.
Giving the unanimous verdict on Monday, the
three-man panel led by Justice Kashim Kaigama ruled that the petitioner failed
to prove her case.
The Tribunal therefore awarded a hundred
thousand naira cost, which must be paid by each of the two petitioners to the
three respondents – the Independent National Electoral Commission, the APC, and
Governor Yahaya Bello.
This means that the petitioners will cough
out two hundred thousand naira each, amounting to six hundred thousand
naira. The tribunal is yet to fix a
date for the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate,
Engineer Musa Wada.
In
a telephone interview with correspondent, the Chief Press
Secretary to Governor Bello, Mr. Onogwu Muhammed said the Tribunal’s verdict
has further authenticated the mandate of Kogi indigenes.
