UNIDO BOOSTS NATIONAL QUALITY INFRASTRUCTURE CAMPAIGN

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation has stressed the need for quality infrastructure for meaningful development in the trade and investment sector in Nigeria.

UNIDO’s Country Representative and Regional Director, Patrick Kormawa made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja at the Technical Sub-committee of Project Steering committee.

Mr Kormawa noted that the European Union has budgeted about 12million Euros to help build National Quality Infrastructure in areas of Metrology, National Accreditation body, conformity assessment bodies and accreditation which is key building strong institutions that can bring about development.

He noted that once these measures are in place, trade and investment will be strengthened, just as made in Nigerian goods will compete favourably with international standards.

In his remarks, the section Head European Union, Juan Casla commended UNIDO for the laudable initiative.

The event was attended by representatives of business communities, federal ministry of industry, trade and investment, standards organisation of Nigeria, amongst others.

NANS DEMANDS SACK OF EDUCATION MINISTER

The National Association of Nigerian Students has accused the Minister of Education of plotting to polarise NANS.

National President-elect, Comrade Tijani Usman told journalists in Abuja yesterday that efforts to the Minister has been working to foist one Comrade Ali Wali as the association’s Secretary General, after failing to clinch the leadership position of NANS.

Comrade Tijani Usman said that Nigerian students will tomorrow, Thursday, lay siege at the Minister’s office until he is removed from office.   He appealed to President Jonathan to intervene in the matter to avoid forcing the students to the streets.

The National President-elect, Comrade Tijani Usman said NANS has sensitized students across Nigeria against being used for unpatriotic acts by politicians

NEW MINISTERS TO REPLACE 7 POLITICAL OFFICE SEEKERS

 President Goodluck Jonathan has announced new Ministers to replace the seven Ministers that resigned from the Federal Cabinet.

The ministers resigned last week to seek political ambitions in their respective states.

Defence Minister, Ali Gusau is to oversee the Ministry of State for Defence, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Viola Owuliri is now Minister of State for Education.

Similarly, the Minister of State for Health, Haliru Al-Hassan takes over the office of the Health Minister, just as the Minister of Industry, Olusegun Aganga is to oversee the office of State.

Also, the Minister of State-2 for Foreign Affairs, Nurudeen Mohammed will oversee the Ministry of Information, while the Minister of Special Duties, Kaburi Turaki, takes over as Minister of Labour.

Others are, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Stephen Oruh takes charge as Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors and Living Legends Foundation have developed a new electioneering campaign model titled “The Next President TV Reality Show”, also known as “Presidential TV Reality Show”.

The programme is an electoral initiative aimed at sensitizing and re-orientating the mindset of Nigerians towards embracing the right attitude towards politics and elections in order to reduce political tension and minimize political violence before, during and after elections.

It is part of efforts by the Nigerian Guild of Editors to add value to the nation’s political and electoral system for the emergence of credible leadership and good governance.

The Nigerian Football Federation has relieved Stephen Keshi of his appointment as Coach of the Super Eagles.

Keshi’s Technical Crew was equally sack. In the interim, Amodu Shuaibu was appointed to manage the Super Eagles, while Sampson Siasia was named as Dream Team Coach.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles last night, rekindled their quest to defend their 2013 African Nations Cup title, with a three-one victory over Sudan.
