NEMA DECRIES INCESSANT FIRE INCIDENTS IN NIGERIA



The National Emergency Management Agency has decried incessant fire incidents resulting in lost of lives, destruction of properties and loss of means of livelihood across the country.
The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who was reacting with fire incidents sympathized with victims of the unfortunate incidents and called on the state governments and people to observe national fire safety code to prevent the reoccurrences.

 “it has been observed over the years that the incidence of fire and its intensity of damage and losses are exacerbated by the Harmattan season and public should be safety conscious” He said.
He stressed that it was important for everyone to acquire safety information in respect of fire outbreaks.  
He said as part of disaster management, the agency would do everything possible   including stepping up efforts to reduce fire outbreaks in the country.
 He advised that all private and public places should have basic fire fighting equipment and always adheres to safety rules in order to prevent fire disaster.


It would be recalled that in recent times, there were reported cases of fire outbreak in Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Gashua, Ibadan, Warri, Minna, Yola, Jos, Ado Ekiti, Lagos, and Gas explosion in Port Harcourt and Nnewi, Anambra state.
