Thirsty? Grab a bottle of Coke. At parties, schools, offices, homes, you will find a bottle of coke everywhere.
Coke has been described as the most valuable brand in history.
“Coca-Cola” is the world’s second-most recognized word after “hello.”
However, some say the beverage is absolute poison to the human
metabolism. It is said that Coke is very close to the acidity level of
battery acid, which is why you can use coke to clean surface same way
you will use any other household cleaner.
Researchers have estimated that people who consume soft drinks such
as Coke have a 48% increase in heart attack and stroke risk, compared to
people who have never tasted coke.
From cleaning toilets to scrubbing jewellery, Coke has proved to be a very valuable household must have.
To prove Coke does not belong in the human body, here are 20 practical ways you can use Coke as a domestic cleaner:
1. Removes grease stains from clothing and fabric
2. Removes rust; methods include using fabric dipped in Coke, a sponge or even aluminum foil. Coke also loosens rusty bolts
3. Removes blood stains from clothing and fabric.
4. Cleans oil stains from a garage floor.
5. Kills earthworm and snails; the acids kills them.
6. Cleans burnt pans; let the pan soak in the Coke, then rinse.
7. Coke can descale a Kettle.
8. Cleans car battery terminals by pouring a small amount of Coke over each one.
9. Coke can clean your engine. Coke distributors have been using this technique for decades.
10. Cleans dirty jewellery, soaking your dirty gold chains and ear rings in coke will remove the tarnish.
11. Cleans tile grout; pour onto kitchen floor, leave for a few minutes, wipe up, you have a sparkling clean tile
12. Dissolves a tooth; Use a sealed container…takes a while but it does work.
13. Removes gum from hair; dip into a small bowl of Coke, leave a few minutes. Gum will wipe off.
14. Removes stains from your precious china.
15. Adding two 2-liter bottles of Coke clears up rust.
16. You can remove (or fade) dye from hair by pouring diet Coke over it.
17. Remove marker stains from carpet. Applying Coke, scrubbing and then clean with soapy water will remove marker stains.
18. Cleans a toilet; pour around bowl, leave for a while, flush clean.
19. Coke and aluminium foil will bring Chrome to a high shine.
20. Strips paint off metal furniture. Soak a towel in Coke and lay it on the paint surface. (The Herald)

Processed meats do cause cancer - WHO
Processed
meats - such as bacon, sausages and ham - do cause cancer, according to the
World Health Organization (WHO).
Its report said 50g of processed
meat a day - less than two slices of bacon - increased the chance of developing
colorectal cancer by 18%.
Meanwhile, it said red meats were
"probably carcinogenic" but there was limited evidence.
The WHO did stress that meat also
had health benefits.
Cancer Research UK said this was a
reason to cut down rather than give up red and processed meats.
And added that an occasional bacon
sandwich would do little harm.
What is processed meat?
Processed meat has been modified to either extend its shelf life or change the taste and the main methods are smoking, curing, or adding salt or preservatives.
Simply putting beef through a
mincer does not mean the resulting mince is "processed" unless it is
modified further.
Processed meat includes bacon,
sausages, hot dogs, salami, corned beef, beef jerky and ham as well as canned
meat and meat-based sauces.
In the UK, around six out of every
100 people get bowel cancer at some point in their lives.
If they were all had an extra 50g
of bacon a day for the rest of their lives then the risk would increase by 18%
to around seven in 100 people getting bowel cancer.
"So that's one extra case of
bowel cancer in all those 100 lifetime bacon-eaters," argued Sir David
Spiegelhalter, a risk professor from the University of Cambridge.
The WHO has come to the conclusion
on the advice of its International Agency for Research on Cancer, which
assesses the best available scientific evidence.
It has now placed processed meat in
the same category as plutonium, but also alcohol as they definitely do cause
cancer.
However, this does not mean they
are equally dangerous. A bacon sandwich is not as bad as smoking.
"For an individual, the risk
of developing colorectal (bowel) cancer because of their consumption of
processed meat remains small, but this risk increases with the amount of meat
consumed," Dr Kurt Straif from the WHO said.
Estimates suggest 34,000 deaths
from cancer every year could be down to diets high in processed meat.
Red meat risk
In context
21%
of bowel cancers are caused by
processed or red meat
86%
of lung cancers are caused by
tobacco
·
19% of all
cancers caused by tobacco compared to
·
3% of all cancers
ascribed to red or processed meat
Source: Cancer Research UK
PA
That is in contrast to one million
deaths from cancer caused by smoking and 600,000 attributed to alcohol each
year.
Red meat does have nutritional
value too and is a major source of iron, zinc and vitamin B12.
However, the WHO said there was
limited evidence that 100g of red meat a day increased the risk of cancer by
17%.
An eight ounce steak is 225g.
The WHO said its findings were
important for helping countries give balanced dietary advice.
Little harm
Prof Tim Key, from the Cancer
Research UK and the University of Oxford, said: "This decision doesn't
mean you need to stop eating any red and processed meat, but if you eat lots of
it you may want to think about cutting down.
"Eating a bacon bap every once
in a while isn't going to do much harm - having a healthy diet is all about
moderation."
Dr Teresa Norat, one of the
advisors to the WHO report and from Imperial College London, said there were
many factors causing bowel cancer.
She told BBC News website:
"People should limit consumption of red meat and avoid consuming processed
meat, but they should also have a diet rich in fibre, from fruit and vegetables
and maintain an adequate body weight throughout life and limit the consumption
of alcohol and be physically active."
The industry body the Meat Advisory
Panel said "avoiding red meat in the diet is not a protective strategy
against cancer" and said the focus should be alcohol, smoking and body
weight. COURTESY BBC HEALTH

LEAVE MY CHARITY ACCOUNT ALONE, KUKU REPLIES EFCC
Immediate
past Special Adviser on Niger Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty
Programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, has asked anti-corruption agencies not to tamper
with the account of his charity organisation, Keketobou Care Foundation, which
he has been using to help the poor in the society.
![]() |
| Hon. Kingsley Kuku |
Kuku, who
made the call in a telephone interview from his hospital in the United States
on Sunday, said there was no public fund in the charity account, which has
helped to render succour to indigent students, women and men over time.
Kuku was
reacting to reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has
frozen the accounts of close allies of former President Goodluck Jonathan,
including the Keketobou Care Foundation, run by Kuku.
The former
presidential aide, who is recuperating in an American hospital after a knee
surgery, said there were no government funds in the said account, which had a
total deposit of N720,484 as at the end of July this year.
According
to Kuku, the amount found in the account was the proceeds from the launch of
his book: “Remaking the Niger Delta: Challenges and Opportunities."
He said
before now, he had used his personal earnings and other donations by
well-wishers to fund the account so as to provide enough funds for buying JAMB
forms for poor indigenes of Ondo State and provide support to poor widows,
women and traders in the state.
“I have
always been using the Keketobou Care Foundation to help the poor and there is
no evidence that the account has ever been funded with government money, as the
records would show,” Kuku said.
He
described as unfortunate any attempt by the EFCC or any other anti-craft agency
to flag the account, saying that it was a politically-motivated move to
implicate him and others who worked with Jonathan.
Kuk said
while he was open and ready for investigation by the anti-graft agencies, it
was wrong for anyone to try to cook up malicious and politically-motivated
issues to smear his hard-earned reputation in a bid to suit predetermined goal.
Kuku said:
“Keketobou Foundation has only N720,484 balance as at today. The proceeds of my
published and launched book "Remaking the Niger Delta" went in there
for charity purposes as a public officer.
“It gave
free JAMB forms to applicants, financial/material support to the aged, widows
and the physically challenged and helped in the local rehabilitation of
walkways and drainages in my birth-place/town, Arogbo, Ondo State in the
determined spirit to give back to my final place of return in life.
“The
publication is false, untrue, malicious and politically-motivated to smear my
hard-earned reputation. What on earth links my face to the alleged story about
NIMASA?
“It is
still all part of the anti-Jonathan onslaught. I am open to investigation as a
public officer but ongoing distortion by agencies and some section of the
media creates in the heart of it all suspicion of witch-hunt and bad politics.
“I hope no
desperate elements would deposit illicit funds into the Foundation's account to
implicate me because the full details of the account from opening to date are
with us.
“Again,
what links this foundation to their so-called alleged sleaze of billions and
phantom security claims? I sincerely smell a rat. Finally, it’s not my account
but a foundation's account,” Kuku claimed.

PRESIDENT BUHARI CONDEMNS BOKO HARAM ATTACKS IN BORNO & YOBE STATES.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned in the strongest
language the latest terrorist attacks on Borno and Yobe communities by the Boko
Haram bandits.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on
Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, the President said he was deeply
touched by these mindless incidents of violence on innocent people during the
month of Ramadan.
According to President Buhari, the terrorists are enemies
of everybody, and enemies of humanity everywhere.
![]() |
| PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI |
He explained that no sane people who believe in any god
would be destroying the lives of innocent people in cold blood, adding that
terrorists don’t represent any religion.
The President said the pattern of their indiscriminate
violence against innocent people shows that they represent nothing else but
anarchy and devilry.
In what appears to be one of his toughest expressions of
outrage, President Buhari reminded the terrorists of his uncompromising resolve
to tackle them with all the resources at the disposal of his government.
Make no mistake about it: this government is ever
determined to discharge its fundamental duty of protecting the lives of its
citizens from physical threats from any groups bent on creating chaos,
confusion, and on destroying social and economic life of the people, he further
warned.
President Buhari, who extended his sympathy to the
families of the victims, reassured all Nigerians that his government would
never tolerate to terrorist blackmail, and that our security forces would
confront the Boko Haram bandits to the last man.
Describing terrorists as cowards who lack any moral
inhibition and any iota of humanity to reason compassionately would not find
Nigeria a safe haven, because they would be hunted down without mercy and
compromise.
He reassured Nigerians that security would be tackled by
his administration with vigorous determination.
The President, however, advised Nigerian to show more
vigilance and be alert to the presence of suspicious people around them, adding
that the terrorists are enemies of religion and humanity. He explained that no true believers in any God
would target worshipers, holy places, or people who are fasting and other
innocent Nigerians.
