NIGERIA TO EXPERIENCE SOLAR ECLIPSE ON SUNDAY

Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Seidu Mohammed, says Nigerian will witness a partial or total solar eclipse on Sunday this week.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Dr. Mohammed, urged Nigerians not to panic during the course of the eclipse, adding that it will be seen across the country and in the West African sub-region.

Dr. Mohammed said it will not affect signal from the stationary satellites, which means that GSM will continue to work and other things will be normal.

People should continue with their normal business and also use their sun glasses, due to partial rays.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN PRESENTS 2014 BUDGET TO NASS, NOV. 12

Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan will present the 2014 Budget estimate to a Joint Session of the National Assembly on the 12^th of Next month.

A letter requesting audience from the Lawmakers, was read at plenary today, by the President of the Senate, David Mark.

Meanwhile Tuesday's plenary ended early, to enable the Joint Committee on Finance study the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, and the Fiscal Strategy Paper, without which, the budget cannot be considered.

KENYAN MALL ATTACK: MILITARY DISMISSES TWO SOLDIERS FOR LOOTING

The Head of Kenya’s military, Julius Karangi has announced that two soldiers have been sacked and jailed for looting during last month's attack on the Westgate shopping centre.

Mr Karangi equally announced that a third soldier was being investigated.

You will recall that the Army Chief had previously disputed CCTV footage of soldiers looting the super market, saying that soldiers had only taken water during the four-day siege.

At the same news conference, Head of the Police Criminal Investigation Department, Ndegwa Muhoro said that the Interpol was helping to analyse the bodies to confirm their identities of charred victims and attackers.

Mr Muhoro said that five suspects are in detention over the attack and would be charged soon

NIGERIANS MOURN LATE EX-CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF, MIKE AKHIGBE

President of the Nigerian Senate, David Mark today, described the death of retired Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, as a loss of a brother, confidant, friend and comrade-at-arms.

A statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Mark recalled their days at the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA), noting that "the former Chief of General Staff was fearless and very diligent in our course."

The statement adds that late Mike Akhigbe's death was a huge personal loss to Mark, members of Course 3, the Armed Forces, Edo State and the nation.

Senator Mark, who is the Chairman of Course 3 Alumni of the NDA, said: "We are consoled that while Mike was with us, he lived his life in the service of God and mankind."

CONRAD MURRAY RELEASED FROM JAIL.

The former doctor convicted of causing the death of pop star, Michael Jackson, Conrad Murray, has been released from jail.

The former cardiologist served less than two years of a four-year sentence after being convicted in November 2011 of involuntary manslaughter.

Jail records confirmed Murray's release, just as the sheriff's office said he left a Los Angeles jail yesterday. Jackson died on 25 June 2009 after receiving a lethal dose of the anaesthetic propofol from Murray.

The singer had been out of the public eye for several years but was preparing for a series of comeback performances at the O2 arena in London and Murray was serving as his personal physician.

The sixty-year old Murray, had been sentenced to serve four years behind bars, but a change in California law allowed his jail term to be significantly reduced.

The former doctor's medical licences remain suspended or revoked in the US states where he previously practised medicine. Murray's legal team is filing petitions in Texas to have his medical licence reinstated.
